Philippe Etienne, Diplomatic Adviser to President Macron
Chair: Robin Niblett, Director, Chatham House
French President Emmanuel Macron has made clear his ambitions to reposition France on the world stage. In under a year in office, he visited a total of 21 states and four continents – with multiple visits to Germany, Belgium and Mali. He was also the first foreign leader to meet President Trump during an official state visit to the US.
At this event, Philippe Etienne, diplomatic adviser to President Macron, offers the administration’s vision of France’s place in the world. How can France navigate the potential trade wars looming between the US and China and between the US and the EU? What role can France play within the United Nations? And how can France address some of the internal and external threats facing the European Union?
