Chatham House | 10 St James's Square | London | SW1Y 4LE

Paul Goodman, Editor, ConservativeHome; Conservative MP for Wycombe (2001-10)
Chair: Sir Simon Fraser, Deputy Chairman, Chatham House; Managing Partner, Flint Global Ltd

With the vote on the EU withdrawal agreement scheduled to take place in the House of Commons on 15 January 2019, the final countdown to Brexit has begun. However, significant differences still remain between a number of competing factions within the two mainstream parties, and the way forward is far from certain. If the government loses the vote, can May’s deal still be resurrected? If not, which is more likely, no deal or no Brexit?

In a discussion taking place a week after the vote, the speaker will outline his views on the next steps whatever the outcome. He will also discuss how the internal politics of the UK Conservative Party is likely to play out in the aftermath and consider the long-term prospects for the leadership and direction of the party.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
