Ljubljana, 1th March - A new government service in charge of drawing EU cohesion funds was officially launched today a bid to improve the country's performance in this segment. The new service will be led by incumbent Economy Ministry State Secretary Andreja Kert, who will report directly to the prime minister.
The government feels that Slovenia's development in the coming period requires an effective and strategic use of EU funds and other financial mechanisms, stressing that it has been clear for a while that EU funds will for some time remain the most important source of investment money in the face of the crisis.
The service will draw up, coordinate and monitor the development strategy and make sure that the national policies are coordinated with the development documents of the EU such as Europe 2020 and be in charge of strategic documents on the basis of which Slovenia can phase EU funds in the new 2014-2020 period.
