Chatham House | 10 St James's Square | London | SW1Y 4LE

Helen Bower-Easton CBE, Director of Communication, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Ben Page, Chief Executive, Ipsos MORI

To some, Brexit reflects a desire among the public for Britain to be less involved in foreign affairs, while for others, it represents an urge to be more global. But what sort of foreign policy does the public support? This event will consider the following questions:

  • Which foreign policy questions do the public care most about? And to what extent have these views changed in recent years?
  • How are demographic changes in the UK shaping attitudes to foreign policy?
  • To what extent are there differences on foreign policy questions relating to factors like age, education and geography?
  • With significant divisions between political parties on some questions, will foreign policy become an increasingly important electoral dividing line in British politics?
  • What role should public opinion play in foreign policymaking?
Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
